Hey Everyone!  It's been a long time since my last post.  And I can't promise this is the start of a new posting spree, but I'll continue to do my best.

Since I moved to Florida in November it's become pretty hard for me to get to Athens to take pictures.  Online sources are good, but it's not the same.  Plus I spend all day on the computer at work, so when I get home the last thing I want to do is jump online.  I guess that's what happens when you turn something you do for recreation into a career.

Sometimes I feel like bidding on eBay auctions, but I never do.  Maybe if I emailed other sellers and told them that I'd put high quality digital images up online they'd acquiesce and let me out bid them.  Maybe not.

Anyway, the big news is that I have a job in sunny Florida.  I'm sure you've all been pulling for me the past year and I finally made it happen.

Ok, so enjoy the website, I'll work on it when I can.  Oh, check out the new Tim Burton movie: Corpse Bride.  or for those of you who prefer DivX.

Happy Haunting!

What you've all been waiting for:

P.S.

Have Job, Live in Florida.

Here's a partial update:

Dr. Lobotomy!  That's for bumblebee, thanks for leaving a message.  Here's another page.  Oooh, that's creepy stuff!

The cemetery pentagram is on it's way.  It'll make it next post.

After a great weekend in Athens, I've got some new pictures on the site.  Homecoming weekend is always a blast.  Lots of familiar faces and old classmates.  I spent a lot of time hanging out with friends and reminiscing around campus.

For those of you just discovering The Ridges, enjoy it.  It's changing up there.  It used to be different only a few years ago.  When I was a freshman and sophomore, there was zero activity up there.  The art museum had just started up, and none of the renovations had started.  The parking lots were active commuter lots, but even during the afternoon there were very few people around.

So that meant the creepy factor was much higher!  The buildings were dirtier, dinger and spookier.  Looking at the busy lit up city in the valley, and the deserted shell of the asylum hulking on the hill made a haunting contrast.  Living in the Convocation Center my freshman year, The Ridges was right out my window.

My advice to current students:

  • Have a great time in Athens, it's a great place

  • Go up to The Ridges this week and take a look around

  • Get a hay ride if you can, I saw one running last weekend

  • Buy a camera if you don't have one, I wish I had more pictures from undergrad

Happy Halloween everyone!

What you've all been waiting for:

P.S.

I need a job!  Have MBA, will travel.

Well, no Bobcat update today.  Miami is a good team, too bad we can't beat them.  But... in other news, check this out: http://www.bemorehealthy.com/RadarHill/

This site details Radar Hill.  For the uninitiated, Radar Hill, not to be confused with Water Tower Hill, is on a trail to the west of the main Ridges compound.  To get there, keep heading up hill, past the research lab, past the main cemetery, and past the TB ward.  There is a closed gate that you can easily walk around, keep following the gravel path and eventually you come out to a clearing.  Continuing uphill to your right is Radar Hill, going to your left will take you towards cemetery #2, the Dairy Barn [if you go far enough], and ROTC training grounds.

It's a good place for a run, bike ride, late night spooky walk, especially since it's beginning to look a lot like fall.  Check it out, you can tell something used to be up there, chunks of concrete and other remnants linger.  I originally thought it was part of the Ridges complex, before I did my research.

The Bobcats continue to lead the MAC!

Another week of losses across the board [except for one team].  Turnovers, you can't win a game against a team you've never beaten if you don't hold onto the ball.

Being from Columbus, and going to school at OU gives me a different perspective on OSU games.  Growing up a Buckeye fan, but later resenting how OSU and it's students act as if they're the only school in the state.  O - H - I - O spells out Ohio, as in Ohio U.  Doesn't spell out The Ohio State University, that's for sure.  What school is www.ohio.edu?  OU.  What is the oldest school in the state?  OU.  What was OSU called when it was founded more than 30 years after OU?  Ohio A&M.  Don't hear that chanted at too many games.

Anyway, my biggest irk is that OU students were bigger OSU fans than they were Bobcat fans.  Why?  doesn't make sense to me.  So you can see how I'm conflicted when Marshall played OSU yesterday.  I don't want to see Marshall win, but I've lost most of the love I used to have for OSU.  So I want Marshall to give them a hard game, to represent the MAC well, but loose in the end to help OU's standings, even though it isn't a conference game.  This is Marshall's last year in the MAC, so we can't let them win another title.

Looks like this page update doesn't have anything to do with The Ridges, but it's about Ohio University.  So I'll throw in Dave Zastudil for good measure [who I happened to live down the hall from in Boyd Hall].

The Bobcats lead the MAC!

Good news for everyone, the Bobcats lead the MAC.  Could this be the year?  Perhaps, but don't ask me, I don't want to jinx them!

I don't really have any Ridges news, good postcard on eBay.  That's about it.  The good news is that I'm going to have a friend moving to Lancaster this week.  We're both Athensphiles.  Or would that be Athenaphiles.  Anyway, we love the place so I foresee road trips in the future.  And road trips mean pictures.  And pictures mean site updates.  And site updates mean... well everyone can see the benefit of site updates, a better page, more interest, etc.

Also, a little shameless self promotion.  I continue to need a job.  I have what amounts to a Telecom undergrad, an MBA, and a good attitude if I do say so myself!  Shoot me an email.

Welcome visitors from the Fortean Times and SavannahNow!

A brief introduction: This site is dedicated to the Thomas Kirkbride designed Athens Lunatic Asylum [now known as The Ridges] and the city of Athens, Ohio.

The links at the left will direct you to various pictures of The Ridges and its grounds, along with one of the most exhaustive list of Ridges and haunted Athens links on the web.

Well, since I'm not in Athens any more, it's harder to come up with material for the site.  I found this while browsing the web.  It's the Paranormal Research Society of North America.  The word quackery comes to mind, but I have to respect someone's hobby.  There are some pictures of the Rides main building under the Miscellaneous Pictures section.  Their photographer should clean his/her les, that flare shows up in every picture.

Here's another site, smaller but with some good pictures.  Also check out some government documents relating to the Ridges, no pictures but good for research purposes.

More to come later.

This just in... Newsflash... Dateline Athens

Dear President-Elect Roderick J. McDavis,

Four things:

1) Increasing an emphasis on graduate research is good, I support that.

2) Increasing minority enrolment is fine, everyone should be able to go to college.

3) Changing OU from quarters to semesters?  BAD IDEA!  This isn't Virginia Commonwealth University any more.  Yes I know you're the president, and yes, I understand all about organizational change, but some things are just a bad idea.

4) Increasing enrolment.  Are you kidding me?  19,962 students is enough, 19,962 students is too much!  Has he been to our classes?  Has he seen where we live?  We sit on floors in classrooms because there aren't enough chairs.  We live in slums because there isn't any place else to live.  One hill outside of town has already been bulldozed, and other construction projects have started.

The entire point of going to Ohio University is for it to be a small rural school where you can walk everywhere you want to go.  Not to pave it like Kent State.  Not take a bus into town, and take a bus home.  Don't miss the last one or you'll have to walk 3 miles out of town to go home.

That isolation is changing the student population.  Half of my graduate class lived in the University Courtyard, and they didn't socialize with anyone besides themselves because they effectively lived out of town.  I've talked to alums, and they say putting TV in the dorms killed dorm social life.  You used to walk through the dorms and everyone's door would be open, now they're all closed, being fed entertainment through a tube.

Wal-mart has already wiped out the Athens Mall and the University Mall.  I don't like the trend.  I'm normally a free market economist, but this time it's cultural.  Running Athens and Ohio University should be viewed as running a theme park; you can change things to keep them fresh for new people, but if you change it too much, people don't recognize it when the come back, and then never do again.

Why do you need higher enrolment?  More money?  By lowering entrance standards?  There's a reason some people just don't get admitted.  I know some people who were refused entrance to college, it's because they weren't ready for it and their application reflected that.  How do you figure that will improve the campus?

How will this money be spent?  More real estate speculation?  Buying up Athens County?  Building superfluous student centers?  Lecture halls farther and farther away from the center of campus?  Central Classroom Building is already a joke, and it was built in 1941.  What ever happened to history?  What ever happened to memories?  What's happening to Athens?

The following was posted 05-18-04

So OU has a new president.  Hope he has priorities other than athletics, as opposed to a current president who will go unnamed.

In other news, well, not really news, it happened a long time ago.  Think the buildings on the green used to be whitewashed?  Cutler Hall sparkling white, or is this just the coloration of the picture?  Not super spooky, but Athens interesting.

Here's an interesting link to an Abandoned Asylum site.  All east coast asylums, but there are a couple postcards from the Athens Lunatic Asylum.

Well, clearly this is the troth of page activity.  The off season is always pretty slow compared to October.  So I've got to do some other stuff to keep the website exciting.

For instance, I just started a blog.  Still in its infancy, but it's there.  My new site is still up, and I'm improving it slowly.

This update doesn't have anything to do with The Ridges

04-05-04

Check out my reworked homepage:

www.Customizedsolutions.org

I'm still working on some intermediate pages for different products, but I'll roll them out in the next week or two.  Due to continuing unemployment, I've decided to pursue this fledgling modern furniture idea that I've been dreaming of the past few years.

1. Sales are increasing, but still on a limited scale

2. Possibility of relocating to Manhattan means increased demand

3. No interviews on the horizon, so I need some income

Anyone have any ideas?  Shoot me an email if you do.

03-08-04

I have recently paid a visit to Athens.  Actually, I'm still in town.  I often end up staying for the majority of a week.  My friends are the best for letting me crash here for days on end.

Yesterday afternoon I ventured up to the Ridges to take some pictures.  At first it looked like I'd be taking pictures of the usual things, main complex and such.  Until I thought about heading up to the second, and less well known cemetery on the Ridges grounds.

As I write this, the wind continues to blow outside, sending a very autumn like draft through the house.  A stormy night is in the brewing.

Is this the only other cemetery?  Who knows.  I'm sure there's some people around that have a pretty good idea.  But no one knows where every grave was dug over the course of a century...

02-05-04

This is a special/partial update!  I finally finished the ASP/VB script that I've been dreaming of for the past few years.  I know, I know, I'm sure this is easy to all you professional coders out there, but I'm a novice.  So check this out; slick, huh?

Now you can leave a message without emailing:

The new, improved Post A Message section.

Thanks for a great weekend everyone.  I know it was sibs weekend, plus I carpooled, so things weren't quite as convenient as they normally are.  Luckily that didn't effect the fun level, and I did snap a couple good pictures here and there.

Speaking of here and there, looks like the geographic coordinates for Athens are roughly 39o 19.687' N by 82o 6.468' W with an elevation of 761ft, or thereabouts.

01-29-04

Hey folks, I'm heading back to OU again this weekend.  Hopefully things have stabilized after Dad's Weekend.  I'd rather not have to defend myself at the Cats Eye.

So if you see this guy out on the town, be nice to him.

There's three new emails in the Post a Message section.  Check them out if you like.

I get more emails from you friendly Ridges fans than I do about trying to find a job!.

01-20-04

Please stop the violence at OU.

There have been more people killed or injured in the past two years than in the previous six.

I'm sure all of you students walking around campus now are thinking the same thing I am.  "What's going on?"  Well, I don't know what to tell you.  It's students in these fights, not out of towners.  That's always why Halloween is a problem, the nonresidents trash the town and we get the blame.

But this problem is completely homegrown.  This is student fighting student.  I was on hand for the Pita Pit fight.  I was actually the person who called 911.  Seeing this kind of stuff first hand is disturbing.  While I was at school, I was uptown as much as anyone, and I never felt the need to assault a single person.  I did tear into some Goodfellas pizza though.  So remember folks, eat, don't beat.

In conclusion.  Please stop killing each other.  There's enough senseless activity in this world without the most fortunate 10% of the population offing each other in bar fights.

Guess who's going to be in Athens this weekend?

No... not Elvis, but close.  It's me [far right]!  I'll be in Athens to hang out with some friends.  So if you're one of the 14 people [on average] who check out this page per week and you want to meet me for a beer at the Cats Eye, or hang out at the Ridges send me an email.

Welcome to my haunts page.  As recent visitors have undoubtedly noticed, my friend Jay Cash passed away this year on Halloween.  This page has always been a celebration of things such as Athens, The Ridges, and Halloween.   But now I'll always have a different take on October 31st.  Jay was the type of guy you either loved or hated, often within the same hour.  I count myself lucky to have known him and to have seen him two days before his fatal car accident.  We caught up on all sorts of topics: cars, girls, school.  The usual.  It's been two months and I miss him.

New topic: Athens

I love old pictures of Athens landmarks.  Take this picture of Baker Center for example.  What's the most noticeable nonentity?  The huge trees on the green!  They haven't started growing yet in this picture.  Also, Ewing Hall has an interesting history.  It was built, moved, torn down, and rebuilt.  Good old Bent' is still standing, in its third incarnation.  Alumni Memorial Auditorium is still kicking, minus the oversized bonsai type tree to the right of the main entrance.  Fun with history!

I still need a job, please help a starving Masters graduate.

Happy Halloween Everyone!!

10-31-03

I've made my decision.  I'm afraid I'll miss my first Halloween since 1997.  It's the end of an era.  [Sigh] But, on the other hand, I don't want to be the creepy 24 year old hanging out with all you college kids.  Speaking of which, I recently received an email from a fellow spooks fan.  Have a good time everyone, stay out of jail!  I'll be celebrating Halloween by running in the Dead Celebrity 5K tonight in Columbus.  Join me in the Brewery District for a beer!

Spooky Movies Everyone Loves!

I've taken the opportunity to line up my favorite atmospheric movies.

It's that time of year yet again.  Still contemplating whether or not to attend my 7th Halloween.  Luckily I have taken more pictures of the Ridges.  Just in time for everyone's favorite holiday!

Tour 2 Has Arrived

Apparently the rumors are true that there are tunnels between the buildings in the Ridges complex.  And, more interestingly, there are areas in the main building that are off limits to even facilities management employees.  Hmm, what's in there do you think?

Other times I've talked to life long Athens residents, and they've recounted playing on the Asylum grounds as children, with patients beckoning them from the windows.  Creepy.

Some other locals have told me a less likely but fun tale.  That tunnels extend from the Ridges all the way down into town.  Extra creepy.  But it does make you wonder about the extent of the steam tunnels around campus and the network of cellars uptown.

09-23-03

Welcome!  Athens and the Ridges sure is getting more exposure.  ONN has picked up the story about the unmarked graves on the Ridges grounds.  Here's a link to story.  The Dispatch is running the story on the front page, however you can't access the story online unless you sign up at Dispatch.com.

I have some pictures of the unmarked graves in the Ridges Grounds section.

Also, if you're new here, the links on your left will take you to pages roughly like what the link describes.  My personal favorites are: Ridges Tour, Black CAT Links and Archival.  The archival section is a collection of these front pages, social commentary and a little info about myself.

Drop me a line and let me know what you think of the site.  I don't live in Athens any more, but I add new content occasionally.  Thanks for checking out the site!    -Justin

Interesting things about Athens:

  1. Ellis Hall used to have a high school in it

  2. [Not to mention that the upper stories and portico were added later]

  3. Cutler, McGuffy, and Wilson aren't the first university buildings

  4. [They all used to house students as dormitories though]

  5. There are lots of windows around campus that "spell out" OHIO

  6. [I'm sure this is by design and few people notice]

What I'd really like to do is go around to all the really interesting University buildings and get "behind the scenes" pictures of all the great stuff you never see.  It'd be a new side to all the places you're used to, but in a way you've never seen them before.  Unfortunately, my time is running out here in Athens yet again.  But it's been fun everyone.  It's a shame I'll have more time to work on this website now that I'm leaving the place that it's about.

Ok, it's the last month of the MBA, everyone pull for me!

It's been five months, so it's time for a new front page.  Twice a year, whether I need it or not.  I've received a few emails, and I'll answer them ASAP [PDQ].  Also, I'll give it my best shot to take some more pictures of the Ridges.

With the MBA wrapping up [hopefully not taking up all of my time] I just might be able to do something I enjoy.  Which means [in no particular order]: this website, cookouts, movies, tech, friends, and family.

I've just returned from a month in Europe, and I'm a little jetlagged.  This is a picture of me eying my liter of beer at the Hofbrau Haus in Munich.  It was a great trip and we hit lots of cities, but it's nice to be back in the US of A.  I could have gone for another couple weeks though.

As always, I'm open to suggestions as what to do with with the site so drop me a line.  I'd like to give a shout out to: the Kates, the Gregs, Jessica, Rita, Kevin, Matt, Kim, Tom, Carrie, Maren, Allie, everyone living in the cabin, Austin [sorry I didn't make it], Ed&Mo [sorry I didn't make it], Liz, and everyone else I can't think of off hand.  See most of you back in Athens tomorrow!

Welcome to Justin's Haunts' new home at www.customizedsolutions.org.  I knew I'd get around to buying a domain eventually.

Let me know if you find any links that don't work, I took care of the obvious ones already.  The old page will remain in action for as long as I can keep it, but all the content is housed here.

Another bonus is that my friends with the proper password can access a whole bunch of fun pictures not related to the Ridges in any way shape or form.  The log in page is here.

Please send any feedback here, this will eventually change over to an easier form, as I become a more proficient web programmer.

It's the end of an era, I know.  When I graduated from OU I got an email saying that my OAK web space was a graduation gift to my graduation class, existing into perpetuity.  I trust the University and all, but because of space concerns I've been forced to go with a different service.

Customized Solutions will serve as an all encompassing domain with my haunts page [a personal favorite], picture page [my most recent project], and a modern furniture page [forthcoming]

01-08-03

It's Official www.customizedsolutions.org [also http://customizedsolutions.org] is online.  I'm in the process of FTPing all of my material there.  The quarter has started out like a lamb, so we'll see if it leaves like a lion.

Next topic, I wish I could FTP with the wireless LAN on campus.  Instead I'm tethered to the back corner of the Archives on the fifth floor of Alden.

Next topic, I'm debating the use of a few logos for Customized Solutions.  Also, whether or not to move this page to the new server, or to keep it here and direct all traffic to the new site.  Logo choices are as follows:

  the conversational suitable for letterhead

To wrap things up, I've added a few pictures to your right, and [see the Latest Update for] selected text from an article I found in the Archives.

Do these pictures look familiar to anyone?

01-02-03

Happy New Year, I'll see what I can do about getting more content up in this new year.

I have actually purchased a domain!  It's www.customizedsolutions.org

It's not running just yet, but give me a bit of time and everything will work out.  So eventually everything here will be moved over there.  I'll keep this page just for the sake of tradition and linkage, but everything will be linked outside to Customized Solutions [].  As the months pass, and as I learn ASP and SQL, I'll try to add some interesting, thought provoking features.

This isn't related to hauntings in any sense, but it's mine so I figure I might as well link it.  I designed and built this folding coffee table for my place because space is at a premium during get-togethers.  I've also got some other furniture and stuff that will make it's way to where I'll have more space.  Actually, I copied some designs, surely violated some intellectual property rights, so maybe I won't post everything that I've built.

Merry Christmas Everyone!!

I hope everyone had a happy holiday.  New Years is just around the corner.  I've restructured this page a bit so it'll be easier to navigate.  Getting a bit too much stuff up here.  The newest items of interest will be at the top left, easy to remember.  So take a look at those new postcard images I swiped from EBay, they'll give you a little different perspective on Athens.

My favorite Holiday movies [in no particular order]:

  • It's A Wonderful Life [1947]

  • Christmas In Connecticut [1945]

  • Miracle on 34th Street [1947]

  • Scrooge [1935]

  • The Muppet Christmas Carol [1992]

  • A Christmas Story [1983]

See you all in the new year!

P.S. I fixed the links on the tour page.  Sorry everyone, I didn't know they were broken.

10.27.02

Thanks to everyone who enjoyed the impromptu tour last night [especially The Rough Ryors], I'll see if I can set something up in the next couple days.  This week is a busy one, but I'll do my best!

My Ridges Tour is HERE

10.16.02

New stuff, new stuff!  Check out the New Pictures Page!  Now I can exploit my COB web space.  Word is that I might get a tour of the Ridges soon.  Watch this space.

More en route.

The long awaited tour might happen this Thursday, I'm excited.

Check out the new picture page, all the thumbnails are up, I'll get all the pictures FTP-ed later.

Also, I'm noticing increased traffic here, but few emails.  I'll survive, hurt as I am.

More new pictures of the Ridges!

Good afternoon everyone.  Due to popular request I have updated this page.  I am now a hardworking member of the second week of OU's MBA program.  After surviving the first week [not to mention the whole summer] I feel comfortable with my Continuing Realistic Survivability Probability [CRISP = 89.67%].

Besides that, I'm at a loss.  It's way too hot to head up to the Ridges.  Maybe I'll just wait till Wednesday...

More pictures of the Ridges!

07.26.02

I have procured a digital camera, pictures are forthcoming.  So forthcoming, there's two right now.  Nice shots huh?  I'll see if I can hit the Ridges one of these days.

There are two new messages on the Post page.  Take a look.  It'd be great to get a hold of some material from site visitors.  Also, I'm going to see if I can get an space expansion for this site so I can put more pictures up.  That's about it.

07.16.02

So what's the deal with this new student center? Necessary; probably not. Unstoppable; completely. I can just see Glidden tossing and turning at night: "must... destroy... all... green space... on campus..." We are OU not OSU. OU not Kent. What did OSU do to the Horseshoe? Lowered the field and added more seats. What did we do the same season? Lowered the field and added new sections. I love bobcat football but what was our record last year? Suspicious.

In other news I tried to volunteer with The Kennedy museum, but I haven't heard back. Guess I'll have to stop back in again. Are there jobs in museum management? Hmm.

I've found this cool spot in Alden where you can sit in an old steel carrel and [here's the bonus] see Carnegie Library [Scripts Hall], and Chubb [Hall] Library. Peace and quiet.

Also, if you know my roommates or myself, we're having a party Saturday so stop by if you get the chance.

Up and coming [I've been mighty busy so give me a break]:

  • More party pictures
  • More Ridges pictures
  • That email I got a while ago

I'm contemplating the purchase of a Digital Camera so I can take lots of pictures and post them easily.  $$$

Also, if anyone cares, this is what I use to author this page:

FrontPage 2000, HP 2200C Scanner, Nikon Nuvis S camera with 25 exposure Kodak 400 APS film, and a Visor Edge with a Micro Innovations foldable keyboard [for portable text]. Internet Explorer, and a SVGA display of 1280 X 1024 32 bit @ 60 Hz.  That's about all I use, WS_FTP95LE too [from NetApps of course]. Nothing fancy. Winamp [actually it's a Compaq iPAQ PM-1 right now, for portable tunes], Vidomi, just your standard stuff. Let me know if you have any questions. Over and out.

I'm back in Athens, starting the third week of the pre-MBA program.  My head is above water so far.  I found a place to live, don't worry.  A couple weeks ago I got a nice email that will find its way to these pages eventually.

A letter to Ohio University:

Students are coming here for the old buildings, not the new ones. I savor every second I get to spend in Baker Center and other buildings around campus. I fear naming others lest slate them for demolition. Old Grover was a great building. I wish I could have seen the original interiors to Chubb and Scripts/Carnegie library.  I'm sure they were rundown and sorely in need of restoration.  Operative word: RESTORATION.  When was the resolution passed to convert the University over to brand new buildings and interiors?

  • I miss the graffiti wall
  • I miss the old volleyball courts behind Boyd
  • I never saw Old Boyd hall
  • I miss each tree that is removed from campus [I wish I could have seen an original McGuffey Elm]
  • I miss the old baseball stadium, though it was wonderful that Bob Wren saw it in his name, my sincere condolences to his family.  I know such losses all too well.

The Ridges are changing.  The Kennedy Museum is a great facility.  Definitely the best floor in Athens.  I suppose what I'm trying to say is that some things you just don't want to change.  Amusement park managers could tell OU something about nostalgia.  You have to keep it new and keep it old.  People have too many memories attached to landmarks, buildings, street corners, and sidewalks.  I had class in rooms on this campus that no longer exist!  How does that work.  I've always felt that I've been living at the end of an era.  Perhaps we all are.

Anyone look familiar?

This just in; I need a place to stay! If you have a place I can live let me know. I have money [for rent that is]. This site gets lots of Athens hits, I know you're out there. How can you not trust a face like this? >>

But seriously, I need a place (hopefully close to uptown) for this summer and the whole 2002-03 year. Drop me a line, I'm a pretty reasonable guy.

In other news:

I fixed a couple links on the Black Cat page, nothing special.  Started reading Athens The Village years, it's good so far.  There's some interesting stuff on eBay.  I'd like to thank the author of the Kennedy Museum site for putting this site first on their links page.

Notice:  if you have tried to post a message please email it to me, my message board is wrought with bugs and often doesn't work

A new update:  not much has changed.  A few new links, and a few new movies.  If you were in Athens fall 1997 you might remember a column published in the Post by a student named Michael Bruzzese.  Though widely unknown Bruzzese was and still is a comic genius.  He captured the spirit of Ohio University students that fall.  As a random coincidence I had a law class with his cousin and long story short; he's in California selling septic tanks [or something crazy like that] over the phone by day and doing something more bizarre as a night job.  My information is old and flawed so don't take my word for it.  So the thing is that I have all of his columns entitled Drunk and Disorderly.  Should I post them?  I don't own them though.  I'll see if I can contact the author and see what he has to tell me.

New and notable.  I've got some pictures up on the Pictures Page.  I think they turned out well.

And this is very exciting.  I've got my categorized links up, Black CAT Links.  Catchy name huh?  There are two or three new links too, decent sites all around.

This one isn't mine, anyone know where I found it?

Oh well, no one comes here anymore anyway.

02.12.02

February already?  What?  Half over?  Huh?

The Archives in Alden, and more Archives.  [I've included 2 links for the price of one since the link from #2 to #1 is broken (and I didn't break it).]

I received a message from a charming historian.  You can read it here.

No I haven't done anything with the links yet.  Give me time.

Unrelated to Athens [as far as I know].

Hmm, an idea just occurred to me.  I might post some Halloween pictures if I get around to it.  You know, my career keeps me busy.

01.20.02

Nothing new to report.  Just that there have been some recent submissions to my Post a Message page.  New AMD logo/link too.  I'm in the process of thinking about maybe categorizing my links.  Hmm.  Thinking.  Oh yeah, Athens, Halloween [in general], OU, the Ridges and other spooky stuff rules!!  Anyone want to post an Athens Halloween story?  Yes?  No?

01.18.02

Right, a new front already.  Just announcing some plans to my 2 daily visitors.  Or if they don't show up I'll just announce them to myself.

I've got some pictures of the Ridges on the way.  Oh and if you're an Athens resident and you've got some great pics that are craving exposure let me know.  Email them to me or the next time I'm in Athens I can pick up the prints [to be returned] or I could scan them.  Either way.  Also, I've got less time to work here because my job has improved rather than evaporated and I've got half a dozen grad school applications to fill out.

Some time soon I will redo the links page.  No don't panic!!  I'll leave the old ones up, but I'll categorize them.  Ooohhhh.  I know.  Recently I finished reading Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell.  There was another happy ending that never quite made it.  From now on I'm sticking to my Berenstain Bears Spooky Old Tree.

01.05.02

I suppose a new year deserves a new start page.  Might as well.

Newsworthy: a very kind and knowledgeable person sent me feedback concerning this humble haunts HQ.

Doubleplusnewsworthy: I took the GMAT today.  Whew, no kidding, you said it.  My preliminary score was above average [I'd like to think anyway].  I was only scored in the 90th percentile in the verbal section.  However, my math score was disappointing.  So I'll just gloss over that point.  Did I say I was pleased with my score?

Almost newsworthy: just watched Requiem for a Dream.  Oh man was that depressing.  Good film maybe but wow.  Not to be seen on a queasy stomach.  So that's how I rounded out my day.  GMAT, 4 hours of poker then Requiem for a Dream.

Final note: if you look to the right [no, farther] you will see me in the actual act of graduating from OU.  Man!  I'm an all-star.

Any new links you'd like to see?  Just let me know.  Got a great site and want it to be seen?  We'll team up.  Just a couple things.

Kids, just say NO to: Real Player, QuickTime, Secure MP3s, Watermarked CDs, Intel Chips, and Nonalcoholic Beer.  Ok so that wasn't related to Athens, Halloween or Haunts in anyway but that's my political agenda.  Hmm, 3:35 AM.  I should probably call it a day at some point.

Looking at those sentences, do I really deserve a high GMAT verbal score?

Halloween has come and gone.  I hope you had fun.  I'm working on stuff, don't worry.  I really wish I could devote more time to this site.  I feel an unharnessed power here.

Recently:

It has come to my attention that the Post a Message section is completely inoperative.  So, in the [unlikely] event you've sent me a message, I haven't gotten it.  A fix is in the pipeline.  For my loyal readers out there, you can resend your lost prose to me.  Unfortunately, again I was unable to get to the Ridges on my last Athens visit.  I'll get around to it some time.

10.25.01

The holiday is right around the corner.  Too bad it doesn't fall on a weekend like previous years.  What else is new?  The Bobcats are ranked just above Buffalo.  Check out The Post, there are a couple more Halloween articles [costumes and stuff].  I did get down to Athens a couple weeks ago but didn't make it up to the Ridges to take pictures as I intended.  Something about my girlfriend wanting attention.  In any event I'll be back in A-town for the festivities.

Looks like my Message Forum is a big flop I haven't heard a peep.  But I won't let it get me down.

There is some new stuff on the Ideas page and the Explorations page.

Check out my original story Lines in the Floor.

10.02.01

Whew!  Thanks for stopping in.  I've done a bunch more work and I hope it's all worth it.  Funny, I haven't gotten a paycheck yet.  I'll wait another month and see what happens.

Currently

I'm trying to join a web ring, get some more exposure.  Plus kicking around ideas.  Such as a blogg on blogger.com.  We'll see.  Also I've a trip planned for Athens this weekend.  If all goes well I might just make it.

This just in: a message book has been added so be sure to post your message if you'd like.  Any suggestions?  Hopefully some more content can be added.  Be patient.  I want to make this the best and most current Athens Spooks page on the Web.  Keep an eye out for an Explorations page.

09.25.01

Welcome back!  I've added a few new links on the links page [where else?] and I'm writing some more here.  Be sure to check out my mini monster movie editorial.  Hmm, being the editor, correspondent and anchor gives me unlimited freedom!  One last thing before I digress, if you're here you are probably interested in a wide variety of things and won't flip out if the new GAP fall line doesn't match your shade of tan-in-a-tube.  Oops, I didn't mean added social commentary but what I do mean is check out the new Lord of the Rings trailer.

The End is Near!  Well maybe not but Halloween is!  Oh I can't wait.  Phew, ok I'm back now.  I'd like to thank the people who have been taking a look here.  I've gotten hits from Asia, Africa, California, Mid-West and not to mention the big OH.  I hear ya Athens!

How 'bout them Bobcats?  The game on the 22nd was my favorite loss of the season.  They'll pull out a win any week here.

Looking for a good read?  Check this book out of Alden:

Hmm, what else can I suggest...

At the risk of being redundant, try something new.  You might like it

Thanks for taking a look at my Athens Haunts page.  I just graduated [in four years I'll have you know] from OU.  During my time there I have had a number of exciting encounters with the Ridges and other spooky areas around Athens County.

Though, if I had it to do all over again... I wouldn't have joined a club, gotten more involved or chipped in.  But I would have gone around and done more.  Hanging out is fun, but a change of scenery is nice.  So my message to current Athenians: explore your world while it's still there!

The University and the City have great plans for your small, cozy little campus.  "More money!" says the board, Gildden nods his head [hearing his own tune] "Yeah, Peden does need to be bigger."

Though most students would rather watch OSU on TV.

Ok, off the soap box.  If your reading this, you aren't one of them.
